It has always made me crazy that Outlook doesn’t provide a built-in mechanism to sync with contact providers such as Google. I mean, for how many years do people own smartphones and manage their contacts primarily through them?
Anyways, today I found a great tool that actually does the job pretty well:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/googlesyncmod/
Installation was a matter of
- Download the installer
- Installing it despite Windows security warning
- Providing my Gmail address
- Selecting “Merge prompt” as the sync method
- Clicking “Sync” button
- Authorizing the tool to access Google API on my behalf (oauth2 token)
And that’s it. 5 Minutes later my contacts are ready to rumble in Outlook. Heaven! And a quick test for a backward sync (i.e. changing stuff in Outlook and observing the change on my smartphone) did work, too.
